Sustainability

Challenge context
To address sustainability challenges while enabling economic growth, Solar Impulse Foundation, a non-profit organization, has identified 1000+ clean and profitable solutions (including technical and non-technical solutions). Solar Impulse Foundation has organized these solutions into a search-engine for climate action - the Solutions Explorer - in order to support their implementation at scale. By giving political and economic decision-makers the tools to adopt much more ambitious energy and environmental policies, the Foundation will help them to set a roadmap to reach their environmental objectives.

Challenge
Solar Impulse Foundation is seeking for non-technical ideas to support sustainable development. Please provide your idea. This idea could be:

a policy (e.g., Incentivizing Train Travel Over Flights During Public Holidays. In 2023, SNCF, a French National Railway Company, offered summer discounts to promote rail travel in France. This initiative aimed to encourage sustainable transportation).

a behavior-based incentive (e.g., Prioritising Second-Hand Shopping. Since 2019, Oxfam's "Second Hand September" campaign promotes donating, reusing, rewearing, and restyling clothing for the month, urging participants to avoid buying new items for 30 days).

an operational strategy (e.g., Embrace flexible working. Dell saved approximately $21 million in real estate expenses by implementing the Connected Workplace program and contributed to a environmental footprint by cutting down on daily commuting).

It would be helpful if you describe a concrete, existing example of the idea, along with real-world use cases or implementation stories from companies or municipalities that have adopted them.
Solar Impulse Foundation will offer:

For Individuals: Contribute to a meaningful environmental cause. You could be invited to join the Solar Impulse Foundation at annual Pioneers Forum, or enter a raffle for tickets to top cleantech events (e.g., ChangeNOW). Neoma Business School will invite participants to share their ideas during Sustainability Day on campus.

For Businesses: Selected ideas will be featured in real-world “use case” on Solar Impulse Foundation website, enhancing visibility, credibility, and impact.

Objective
Leverage crowdsourced intelligence to identify solutions—policy frameworks, behavioral incentives, and operational strategies—that help businesses and individuals adopt sustainable practices. For this project we are aiming at identifying concrete and existing examples of solutions as well as real use cases/implementation stories of companies/municipalities that have implemented them. We then wish to transcribe them to be part of our comprehensive catalogue of solutions (the Solution Explorer).
Focus Areas (Based on the Solution Explorer’s Non-Technical Solutions Portfolio):

Behavioral & Policy-Driven Sustainability Solutions – Business models, policy recommendations, and consumer behavior interventions.

Scalability & Impact – Solutions should be applicable in real-world scenarios and contribute to measurable sustainability outcomes.

Key Sectors: Corporate Sustainability, Smart Cities, Circular Economy, Responsible Consumption, and Sustainable Mobility.

You can find previous examples on the Foundation's website: <a href="https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsolarimpulse.com%2Fsolutions-explorer%3Fsolutionrewrites_production%255BrefinementList%255D%255Bnature_en%255D%255B0%255D%3DBehaviours%26solutionrewrites_production%255BrefinementList%255D%255Bnature_en%255D%255B1%255D%3DPolicies&data=05%7C02%7Czhixia.chen%40neoma-bs.fr%7C11304bc117984170ad9908ddafcbc039%7Cea847b31dc734e64b8e954cb237688f3%7C0%7C0%7C638860011884071978%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=fviAuYm7K2yCyij1YHXbXBATzH%2B3t4ruUZxZ%2FH%2FdXE4%3D&reserved=0" title="Original URL: https://solarimpulse.com/solutions-explorer?solutionrewrites_production%5BrefinementList%5D%5Bnature_en%5D%5B0%5D=Behaviours&solutionrewrites_production%5BrefinementList%5D%5Bnature_en%5D%5B1%5D=Policies.
